(also called individual therapy or individual counseling)
My approach to psychotherapy provides you with a warm, confidential, non-judgmental place to explore and understand the emotional difficulties that may be standing in the way of leading a more rewarding, productive life or having more satisfying relationships. Often the underlying source of these difficulties lies just beyond awareness. I can help you to gain insight about thoughts, feelings, and patterns that may be holding you back from leading a truly satisfying life.
There are many good reasons for seeking therapy or counseling. Sometimes your best efforts along with the advice and support of family and friends are simply not enough to overcome challenges. You may want help with a crisis or a life transition such as marriage, divorce, birth of a child, career transition, or relocation. You may feel stuck with recurring emotional difficulties such as anxiety, panic attacks, depression, self-esteem issues, relationship difficulties, eating disorders, or grieving. Or you may want help dealing with traumatic or painful personal life experiences.
By working together, I can help you to:
- Increase self-awareness and resolve the emotional difficulties that are interfering with leading the life you want to live
- Improve relationships
- Enhance self-esteem
- Resolve ambivalence about making changes in both your personal and professional life
- Overcome blocks in creativity and increase productivity
Making the decision to seek psychotherapy can be challenging. You may feel ambivalent, afraid of the unknown, or uncertain if it would be useful for you. To assist you in deciding whether you would like to make a first appointment, I offer a free initial phone consultation to help you assess your situation. Together we can determine whether it would be useful for us to meet for an in-person consultation.
After the phone consultation, the best way to help you to see whether our working together is helpful to you is through a trial period of one to three therapy sessions. If you have questions or would like to set up an initial phone consultation or appointment, please contact me by phone at (510) 547-2522.
